About The Beatles

The first incarnation of The Beatles was The Quarrymen which John Lennon formed in 1957.

Paul McCartney then joined and then invited George Harrison. Each member, John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison played the guitar. John Lennon played the rhythm guitar, Paul McCartney played the bass guitar and George Harrison played the lead guitar.

In 1960 the group went through several name changes from The Beetles, to Long John and the Beetles to the The Silver Beatles before coming just The Beatles.

Pete Best was the original drummer with The Beatles, joining them before they started their tour of Hamburg. Pete Best was a popular member of The Beatles during their beginnings at the Cavern Club in Liverpool.

Pete Best was replaced as The Beatles drummer after they returned from Hamburg and started to record with George Martin. Ringo Starr replaced Pete Best.

Ringo Starr was a popular choice with Paul McCartney, John Lennon and George Harrison as they had known him in Hamburg when Ringo was with Rory Storm and the Hurricanes. Pete Best was sacked by Beatles manager Brian Epstein in 1962.
